Northern Kenya development ministry
A game or sense of change

For many years the government of Kenya played games when it comes
to Northern Kenya development, we still remember what the Moi
government did when the resident requested to enhance the water
project in the region; they appointed Mr. Hussein maalim for water
development minister but the man was unable to help the people due
to continuous pressure from the same government that appointed him.
Then came when the region was lucking the necessary health
facilities and qualified health offers, the government could not
help, only to appoint Mr. Hussein maalim for medical services
minister, the same man who disappointed northeasterners for the past
years. Again the government appointed Mr. Mohamed abdi Mohamud for
Rural development minister when they felt that the area MPs are
exerting pressure on it over the development of their region.
Despite this appointment, NFD is the worst part of the country since
the independent.
On the other hand, the government appointed Major Ali to be the
police boss. This came after the residents and the MPs accused them
for giving the police a green light to harass our people.
We are now facing a similar game from the currently formed
government of national unity where by Hon. Ibrahim elmi Mohamed was
appointed to be the minister for development of northern Kenya and
other region.
Mr. Ibrahim Elmi has the ambition to do something but, as we have
witnessed several occasions he will face tough challenges from the
government and some individuals who want the region to remain the
way it is till the doom day. These people who blocked a number of
developing projects are still in the government! And we are sure
they will do all means to do it again.
The other ironic issue is the appointment of Hon. Aden bare duale,
the assistant minister for livestock development; it is wonderful
decision and Mr. Duale is capable of doing wonders but, will the
government of Kenya allow these young and active politicians reach
their targets?
Hon. Yussuf hajji is the defense minister, many ask why Kibaki
decided to choose him for this big post forgetting that it is the
government policies to appoint defense minister to somebody from the
minorities so that they don’t feel they are marginalized however,
Northeastern is already marginalized.
